A Comprehensive Approach to Tinnitus & TMJ Care

At Sydney Tinnitus Clinic, we move beyond the traditional "learn to live with it" approach. Our services are built on the clinical understanding that your auditory experience is deeply connected to your musculoskeletal health. As APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists, we specialise in identifying the physical "volume knobs"—such as jaw dysfunction, neck tension, and nervous system sensitisation—that can amplify tinnitus, hyperacusis, and facial pain.

We provide a range of evidence-informed treatments, from specialised TMJ Physiotherapy and Neural Desensitisation to Dry Needling and Remedial Massage. Each service is integrated into a personalised management plan designed to reduce symptom intensity, improve your physical comfort, and empower you with the clarity needed to reclaim your quality of life. Whether you are navigating persistent ringing, sound sensitivity, or complex jaw issues, our team is here to provide the expert, results-driven care you deserve.

The first step in managing tinnitus, hyperacusis, or TMJ dysfunction is a detailed understanding of the "why" behind your symptoms. Our Initial Consultation is a dedicated 45-minute session designed to provide clarity, clinical expertise, and a clear roadmap for your recovery. Our Initial Consultations are $225 and is inclusive of:

  • Comprehensive Assessment: A deep dive into your tinnitus history, symptoms, and lifestyle factors to identify specific musculoskeletal contributors.

  • Musculoskeletal Screening: A methodical evaluation of your jaw (TMJ) mechanics, cervical spine function, and muscle tension by an experienced APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist.

  • Diagnostic Review: An analysis of any previous test results you provide, such as audiology reports or ENT letters, to ensure a complete clinical picture.

  • Personalised Management Plan: The development of a tailored strategy featuring evidence-informed treatments like manual therapy, neural desensitisation, or dry needling, specifically designed for your needs.

  • Clinical Education: We aim to bridge the gap between your assessment results and your recovery by explaining exactly how musculoskeletal factors influence your symptom intensity. We implement a structured plan using evidence-based techniques like neural desensitisation and manual therapy to retrain the brain’s response and restore physical function.

  • Professional Coordination: A summary letter is provided for your GP, audiologist, ENT, or other healthcare providers to ensure a seamless, collaborative approach to your care.

Following your initial assessment, we move into the active phase of your recovery. Our follow-up sessions are designed to implement your personalised management plan, refine techniques, and track your progress as your symptoms settle.

What the Package Includes:

  • Targeted Treatment Sessions: Each session focuses on evidence-informed musculoskeletal treatments, such as TMJ therapy, manual cervical spine techniques, or dry needling, tailored to your specific findings.

  • Neural Desensitisation Training: Continued guidance and progression of strategies like neural tapping to help calm the nervous system and improve sound tolerance.

  • Ongoing Progress Review: We use objective outcome measures at each stage to ensure your management plan is effectively reducing symptom intensity.

  • Refinement of Self-Management: We empower you with updated home-based strategies, exercises, and education to help you maintain your results independently.

Investment and Value

Our follow up consultations are $185. Prepaid packages are available upon request and are dependent on the management plan.

By choosing a prepaid package, we ensure continuity of care during the critical early stages of your recovery. Most patients find that a structured series of five sessions over two months allows for meaningful, lasting change in symptom management and daily comfort.

To complement your treatment, we have partnered with the massage therapy team at Vantage Point Physiotherapy to provide targeted remedial therapy for our clients. This collaboration allows us to integrate expert manual therapy techniques that focus on the specific muscular patterns often linked to ear and jaw symptoms, such as tension in the masseter, neck and shoulder girdle. By addressing these through specialised remedial massage therapy, we can help lower the distress that frequently amplifies the perception of tinnitus and sound sensitivity.
